Adrian offered the exemplar of how to get the railways improved, and succeeded despite the difficulties often imposed by central government.
He was probably the last of the great railwaymen, and a thoughtful and engaging person.
He will be missed by many thousands of people.

I started at Chiltern in 2004 and I stood in awe in Adrian’s office at Aylesbury as he welcomed me (and the others) into the railway family. I remained in awe for all the time he was at Chiltern’s helm. His guidance was readily available and always gratefully received. Even after he left Chiltern, I continued to remain in awe, and still do even now, of his achievements and, hopefully, I life well lived. Rest peacefully Adrian.
