The human touch

Created by Allan one year ago

There have been many and well-deserved tributes to Adrian's vision and leadership in the rail industry, and to the fun we all had working at Chiltern Railways, but he was also a thoroughly decent guy.

Some years ago my eldest son was finding the UK employment market difficult, and applied for a job in Canada. William had only spent a brief time working at Marylebone, and then in a very junior capacity, but even so Adrian spent an evening writing a personal reference for him, and filling in a complex questionnaire on Will's Chiltern job. No doubt Adrian had many other things on his mind at the time, but his willingness to spend time on this speaks volumes. That job led to a successful career in Vancouver, and eventually Canadian citizenship, for which Adrian's contribution played a big part.

Thanks Adrian; you helped a young man make a huge step forward.
