Peking to Paris 2010

Andrew and I have incredible memories of Adrian rallying, not least when, in 2010 on the Peking to Paris Rally, we broke down and decided it would be much better if we chartered a light aircraft to fly us on to enjoy the luxury of the Intercontinental Hotel Almaty, Kazakhstan, while our cars were loaded onto trucks and driven across the challenging terrain to join us later for repairs. Unfortunately, we had to pay for the charter in cash as no credit cards were accepted. This meant we had to toddle off to do a tour of the various banks in order to max out our daily withdrawal allowance at each of the different financial institutions, meeting later in the weirdest airport VIP lounge I have ever come across (the taps in the ladies' loo were not connected to any water supply and there were plastic flowers in vases!). There we counted out our money on a plastic-covered table to hand over - it looked like a drug deal or some other nefarious activity was going down! In the piccies you can see Adrian dutifully counting out his share and Adrian and I heading to the plane to board after payment was accepted. This episode earned us all the shared sobriquet of the "Jet Set" by the late Philip Young. Rest in Peace Adrian and big hugs to Barbara. Andrew and Pamela Mykytowych
